‘Eye’

Short film

Following the lockdowns throughout the last two years I hoped to explore themes of isolation and mental health in my film. I wanted to depict the simultaneous feelings of introspection and alienation caused by isolation. The protagonist alters between being trapped in his own head and being stranded in a lifeless environment, and his struggles throughout the film are his attempts to break out. The mental illness most explored is derealization, which is commonly described as feeling detached from reality. It is for this reason I hoped to make the film feel a little uncanny to watch in order to have it reflect the protagonist’s mental state. The choice of a psychological thriller/horror was natural as it lends itself nicely to both the short film format and the themes I wished to explore.
