Painting
Acrylic on canvas
Research into the Archibald and Wynne prizes inspired students to create these paintings. They explored styles independently and studied how historical and cultural contexts intersect. Students investigated ways artists from different times and cultures have used materials and techniques to develop aesthetic qualities and represent significant people and places. Students learned about the properties of impasto and gel mediums and were encouraged to discover for themselves how these and tools other than brushes can be used to create unexpected effects.
Artist Books
Mixed Media
Students created a folio of botanical and still life drawings to use as inspiration for their own artist books. They studied the processes used by artists such John Wolseley and made large format paintings. This helped to expand their understanding of how the natural world can be represented or employed for expressive purposes. Some students chose to make a visual diary of their folios while others were supported to create a book that challenged our idea of what a book can be.
