Minecraft character

Tinkercad 3D modelling

Students were introduced to Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) through the creation of their very own Minecraft character. Students learnt to visualise, and draw effectively in 3D to discover their own Minecraft character before converting their ideas into a digital format using Tinkercad.

Design Thinking – Building Rockets

Paper

Students were introduced to the process of learning by making as they built rockets and learnt about aerodynamics. Through they testing process they quickly understood concepts including drag and lift so they could build more efficient rockets.

Bridge Building

Plywood, cotton yarn

Students studied a variety of bridge types before collaboratively designing and engineering a bridge to hold maximum loads. As part of the learning by making process, they learnt about material properties and concepts including tension and compression. Students competed with other class members to design and construct the lightest bridge that carried the maximum load. These were tested in the workshop until they reached breaking point.

Bridge Builders and Designers - Zac Ioannou, Kynan Home, Tom Starkey
