PRODUCT DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY 2022

Recently, a father (aged 62) has decided to start working from home considering he drives an hour and a half to and from work. He is unable to sit at a standard desk due to his ADHD. This corner desk will be designed and manufactured for people with ADHD. We’ll attempt to make the corner desk electronic which will improve the end users' posture, reduce back problems and other health issues. In turn, they cut down on sick days. Additionally, recent research has shown that workers using standing desks stay more alert and focused every day, allowing them to be more productive. The end user may need this desk because their current desks may not have the capabilities to move up and down which leads to back issues. We the designers are attempting to design the desk to have the capabilities for the end user to either stand and work or also sit and work as well as 360 degree moving chair. The design will have a storage compartment and different little gadgets (risen compartments to hold computers) which will be perfectly fitted depending on the end user’s height and anthropometrics. The product is designed for people aged 30 or above (typically people with back pain). The budget of the desk will be $370 to $500 due to the materials and electronics used in the production of the desk, as well as the desk being designed and created to the end user’s height preference. Due to COVID 19 we have seen a shift in working conditions and more workers are working from home which is a cultural consideration we need to consider. I will need to further investigate to see how the product will electronically move vertically (up and down). Depending on what type of electronic movement. Whether or not it’ll be though a sensor the end user will wave their hand through or a lever the end user will pull to rise and decrease the height of the desk. The electronic desk will be dependent on how much money the end user will be willing to pay. The desk will consist of the materials that would be used during the manufacturing of a normal wooden desk (different types of wood). Wood will be used to create stable and strong desk legs as well as a sturdy frame beneath the desktop to prevent damage. The desk will benefit the end user as it will allow the individual with plenty of room to fit all work pieces/products which will overall prevent and maintain their ADHD problems and help will the posture to prevent pain.
