origin story

For my VCE Media studies project I created a 10-minute-long, short action/superhero film with comedic elements in order to engage a younger audience. The main themes present in my film are courage and heroism, friendship and feminism as the film supports two strong female leads. Solo female superhero films have become high in demand over the past 3 years with film studios dedicated to superhero films, such as Marvel Studios and DC Comics, releasing Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), Captain Marvel (2019) and Black Widow (2021). Currently the film industry is promoting strong female leads in films as there is a large demand in audiences for equal gender and cultural representations in films, especially in superhero films. The choice to have my film clearly set in Melbourne also promotes the Australian film industry and appeals to an Australian audience as there are a very small number of action films set in Australia considering it is the 2nd most popular genre in the world.
