Media production development
In Unit 3, students investigate and research a selected media form to inform the development of their proposed production. This research contributes to the direction of their production design. Students investigate aspects of the media form in which they will work, developing knowledge of narrative, genre, style, media codes and conventions and aspects of the works of media practitioners relevant to their proposed production. Students develop production skills that inform the production, design and development of a media product. They record their learning in documented research, annotated production activities, experiments, exercises and reflections.
Media production design
In Unit 3, students use industry specific design and planning, both in written and visual documentation, to complete a media production design. The design incorporates a clear fictional and/or non-fictional narrative for a specified audience in a selected media form. Students must consider the relevant media codes and conventions of the selected media form.
Media production
In Unit 4, students move from production into post-production where the manipulation, arrangement or layering of the ideas and material generated in pre-production and production leads to the realisation of their production design. Students undertake personal reflection and seek feedback on their work, developing, refining, and resolving their product as a result. They document iterations of their production after considering the factors that have influenced the development, refinement of materials, technologies and processes, the resolution of ideas and the effect they have had on the final product.

My short film depicts a simple narrative of a man whose sole purpose is to rejoin the sea which he adores. The purpose of my short film is to celebrate the power of nature, and to emphasize the pursuit of happiness as intertwined with the human condition.

SAT – trailer for a final presentation
For my media product, I was originally going to make a fully animated film, but due to time constraints, I was only able to get the opening fully finalised, so I made it a teaser trailer for an animation instead.
My main intention was to establish the main setting and character of the film and the main plot point of the character having no idea how they got there and needing to find a way out. The unusual colours of the floating forest convey a fantasy, dreamlike atmosphere very different to normal forests, positioning the audience to share the main character’s shock and confusion and engage them to keep watching to see how they get out.

Everything Is Going Swimmingly
Unit 3 and 4 Media
SAT Final Presentation
My intention was to create a short film entitled 'Everything is going swimmingly' conveying a realistic depiction of anxiety, through the protagonist's point of view. It features generic codes and conventions based on early 2000s teen movies. Thus, I wanted my film to be in the genre of a bildungsroman/coming of age film, exploring mental health in a way that doesn't glamourise or romanticise it.

Untitled
Unit 3 and 4 Media
SAT Final Presentation
My intention was to make a short horror film in the modern gothic style. It was recorded to be played back at 1920x1080 resolution, which is common for modern monitors and reflects the quality of a typical streamer's recording. I filmed the entire movie in one room using a single webcam. The film explores the themes of horror, through the limited perspective of the main camera, and I will use those perspectives and the characterization of these themes to tell the story. The film focuses on a small area, purposely hiding the rest of the room, and instead of relying on jump scares, I aimed to create a constant feeling of unease and fear in the audience, using this space to assist in that effect. The goal was to make the entire film horrifying and unsettling to watch, keeping the audience engaged and captivated throughout.

Unit 3 and 4 Media
SAT Final Presentation
My intention for my short film was to create a media product where the audience was consistently engaged with the story being presented within the narrative. The ultimate goal of my short film was to leave a lasting impression on the audience that lasts long after they have seen it. I wished to accomplish this by developing a distressing but intriguing plot that leaves the audience with a disturbed impression due to a sense of unease and fascination towards the narrative, ultimately appealing to the audience's emotions. As well as this, I wanted the twist within the story to unexpectedly grab the attention of the audience and to make my story more memorable and powerful.

High to Death
Unit 3 and 4 Media
SAT Final Production
In my music video I wanted to create a palatable representation of anxiety. I intended to depict a girl, at all stages of her life: young, adolescent, and adult, experiencing mental illness. With this, I wanted to highlight how it can be a crippling force, while also fluctuating over time, ebbing and flowing as the girl travels through life. In my personification of anxiety as a physical figure, I wanted to reduce it to its simplest form, removing all nuance to mental health to help articulate to all ranges of audiences the impact of mental health beneath the surface, recharacterising it as a physical presence. I wanted my audience to feel sympathy for my protagonist, and most importantly recognise mental health as a legitimate cause for concern, despite its lack of tangibility - but I did not want my audience to feel pity for her, rather recognising her internal fortitude to withstand her suffering.
Furthermore, I largely aimed to create a visually appealing film, where the matter of each scene not only conveys meaning on the severity and importance of acknowledging mental illness, as well as create a visually stimulating depiction. I wanted the content to have emotional impact through its visual imagery, where my audience were impressed with visual elements, and therefore felt emotional engagement to my protagonist and her experiences.

My intention for my short gambling film was to create an engaging, comedic, dramatic film based on the events gambling games. However, I took a comedic approach towards the gambling plot where funny elements and stage direction creates a more overdramatic short film rather than a serious take that captures the audience engagement of both the humorous decisions and the narrative plotline. This was directed towards adult but also late teens audiences that can understand the explicit features of gambling easily immersing to the narrative.

The Visitor
Unit 3 and 4 Media
SAT Final Presentation
With creating my thriller short film 'The Visitor', I intended for my audience to not perceive this film as lazy or shallow but rather look at it with the same lens as if they were watching a Wes Anderson mixed with Alfred Hitchcock and Tim Burton style film. 'The Visitor' is based on a very vivid dream I had a few years back and has always been a film or story idea to fulfil and granted this opportunity I am glad I did so, designed to be somewhat up to interpretation and with a purposeful decision of no dialogue, this film also reflects the idea of self-imagery and self-sabotage one may feel as growing up, presented in the form of a young boy played by my brother Juliano Liparota. His character acts as a place holder and entity to be filled by any viewer and those who morph this story to their own to resonate. This film process has been an absolute rollercoaster, filled with so many challenges to overcome, however, this was intended to be a learning experience which it has been, enjoy, thank you.

Doppelgangers
Unit 3 and 4 Media
SAT Final Presentation
I intended to create a short psychological horror, incorporating supernatural elements. It was presented like a mockumentary similar to the office. I intended to incorporate the typical styles of setting, costume and lighting that were typical throughout such workplace mockumentary.
The psychological aspect of my film stems from the concept of doppelgangers, that may appear to be characters that the audience has already been introduced to and formed a connection to, only to be revealed as malicious entities. The presence of doppelgangers is intended to imbue a sense of dread or paranoia in my audience, leaving them unsure of which characters they themselves should trust.
The audience should feel a sense of worry, knowing from the context that films typically have some sort of tension within them and understanding that the beings introduced throughout the film will eventually have a part to play, leaving them with the knowledge that these beings exist within the narrative, but not which form or which individuals exist as doppelgangers.

A Talk Show
Unit 3 and 4 Media
SAT Final Presentation
My intention by creating this talk show was to make a comedy skit that used improvisation from actors to create shock and surreal comedy. Using set and props everything had to be done in one take, if there was a mistake and we would have to re shoot, it would lose the shock element. My guest was completely unaware of what was going to happen to him or what was going to be asked.

Best You
Unit 3 and 4 Media
SAT Final Presentation
I intended to create a 10-minute Sci-Fi/Teen Drama short film titled 'Best You.' It delved into themes of self-discovery, expectations, and legacy, following a high-school student struggling with identity. This student creates a device to become the 'best version' of themselves, leading to multiversal chaos. The film's message is that the concept of a 'best you' is entirely subjective and tied to external pressures. It explores the fear of adulthood in young people, aiming to connect with the teen audience through the protagonist's journey of self-discovery. Aesthetic inspiration comes from 'Everything Everywhere All At Once,' while maintaining a unique directorial vision. The film's purpose was to provoke emotional and thought-provoking reactions within a 10-minute timeframe, highlighting how circumstances shape us as individuals.

Then They Came For Us
Unit 3 and 4 Media
SAT Final Presentation
I intended on creating a short narrative piece that combines the form of music video and short film. It has elements of psychological horror and drama. The music is from the Australian band ‘The Drones’ and includes only a select few actors including myself. The main spectacle of the video is the editing and effects. The main sets are forestry and greenery areas, as well as indoor spaces. The tone of my media piece will be high paced and frantic at times, before shifting to mellow or premeditated. Due to the choice of song and also my personal desire I decided to centre my film’s message around climate change and the anxieties felt by the younger generation as a result. Hopefully younger people watching my product will feel seen or inclined to try to investigate the hidden message. Also, my greatest wish was to entertain with cool visual effects and sound design.

Unit 3 and 4 Media
SAT Final Production
I intended on creating a short film about a young girl and her fish that metaphorically represented the fear an apprehension felt towards growing up. I used a soft colour palette, achieved through editing and colour grading that aided in conveying the idea of a childhood memory, further emphasised through the appearance of the older version of the protagonist at the beginning and end of my film. I believe my film has a strong sense of relatability with audience members of all ages. It’s explicitly targeted to young people and the concept of growing up, but it could also be interpreted as apprehension towards any new experience in life that of course, will ultimately end up okay.

Masked Killer
Unit 3 and 4 Media
SAT Final Production
My intention was to make a psychological thriller short film based on one of my personal nightmares that inspired me. The short film was set in my home and stars three people: my goddaughter, who is five years old, the mystery antagonist, and myself. Through suspense and anticipation, my thriller aimed to keep the audience alert and on the edge of their seats. This was accomplished by using dramatic suspenseful music, jump scares, and diegetic noises of sound effects such as thunder. I intended to film at night to heighten the spine-chilling effect of the suspense short film. The short video ends on a cliff-hanger, with me seeking for the man and me not being able to find him. My goddaughter then vanished, leaving just her teddy bear on her bed. The teddy bear left by the child is the only trace of the man and the little girl. My thriller is to be action-packed and fast-paced, with moments of suspense, anxiety, and panic for the audience.

LEGO MARVEL: Spider-Man No Way Home Showcase
Unit 3 and 4 Media
SAT Final Production
I intended to create a showcase video about my 3 custom Lego Spider-Man figures with the costumes based around the 2021 film ‘Spider-Man No Way Home’. My showcase video was inspired by other customizers in the Lego community. This product was intended for an audience of any age but mainly those who are younger, between the ages of 10-25 who may have an interest in starting out on their journey of custom Lego minifigure creation. I intended to combine shots of the finalized figure and finished figure as well as progress photos to show people how it started, how it looked during the process and the final figure. My overall purpose of this showcase video was to educate my target audience, engage them as well as inspire others to begin this hobby.

My Rhapsodised Infatuation
Unit 3 and 4 Media
SAT Final Production
I intended to create a 7-10-minute psychological thriller short film about the warped reality of a teenage girl obsessed with a fake romance that is imagined in her own mind. Through the story being told from the perspective of one person, I intended to convey the inner workings of the obsessive mind and uncover the issues of obsession and social isolation. Through this film I wanted people to consider the dangers of romanticisation and the high standards that come with consuming romance or any sort of media which causes dissatisfaction with life. I intended to uncover the themes of; infatuation, isolation, derealisation, and obsession through the exploration of the protagonist's actions and repetitive behaviours. The definition of the title of the film promptly foreshadows the narrative arc. The short film's protagonist writes about detailed and intense admiration that quickly becomes fleeting attractions, displaying the idea of a warped reality prompted by derealisation fantastical obsession.

Beyond the Beam
Unit 3 and 4 Media
SAT Final Production
I produced a short sports documentary film about gymnastics, mainly surrounding its many benefits and struggles. I intended it to be insightful, with many chances for the audience to learn unknown secrets about the sport. I intended to create something that was professional, yet also light-hearted comedic, and enjoyable. I chose to interview four coaches who are past, returning and current gymnasts, who I believed could provide incredible insight into the sport through their long coaching and gymnastics careers.
The purpose for my product was not only to entertain, but to also educate my audience in an entertaining and amusing way, by displaying an interview as there are many incorrect and harmful stigmas surrounding this sport, and as a result these stigmas undermine and negatively impact the athletes and sport as a whole.

Daisy’s Heist
Unit 3 and 4 Media
SAT Final Production
I intended to create a film that celebrates and reflects the style of the tv shows and films the children in my own generation have grown up watching. This involves mimicking cringe teen comedies to bring light to the protagonist Daisy's attempt at a more serious heist. Daisy is sturggling with the idea of high school ending so creates this heist scenario to grasp on to the high school experience that she has watched growing up. I want my audience to feel a sense of nostaligia while watching it and since the film is targeted at high school seniors, I want people to be able to reflect on what high school has meant to them. The bright colours and innocent story line will hopefully allow a wider audience to follow the characters and feel like a child for 9 minutes. Ultimately, this film is aimed to entertain and be a source of comedy for any audience.
