A Followed Series 2023

Photography, digital editing and print, comprising of 12 individual photographs that work together to created a circular narrative

A Followed Series 2023 is a 12 series photography artwork (presented 4x3), that depicts the anxiety and self awareness that is inevitable to come during ones teen years. Liparota dedicates this artwork as a letter to herself and as a self reflection piece that articulates the hardships and workings that have gone into her mental health journey, and the journey of highschool all together. Captured in Montsalvat, Eltham, Liparota used a good friend of hers who shares similar facial characteristics, to represent the artist as a series frame in point of view angles that depict and present a sense of being followed or stalked by an outside entity, just to realise its herself  always criticising and finding the need to always have to pick out any little mistakes made.

Liparota’s work was heavily influenced and inspired by the workings of the 1920s art movement of German Expressionism and the modernised adaptation of this art form with Tim Burton’s work. Seen through the editing and sharp lining in buildings and altered framing, Liparota expresses emotions of self reflection and intention of connection with audience, Liparota hopes a sense of relation and connection, particularly targeted for young female audiences, to understand the emotions achieved to depict and convey.

This work builds on Liparota’s unit 3 artwork which explored similar themes of self reflection, self conscious awareness and anxieties following highschool and teen-adulthood, however Liparota aimed to display these concerns and emotions in a more formal display. The artistic choice of display is inspired by a polaroid development red room as can be seen through the red lighting overhead and how the photographs are framed and hung like polaroids.

For unit 3 my art works consisted of both photography and an acrylic painting on canvas, both these art works followed the same theme and ideas of a sense of overwhelmingness and self reflection, although the photography was created in a humorous and more frivolous manner.
